Damaged Roof

Prevent leaks in your Worcester area roof

Central Massachusetts averages over 48 inches of rainfall per year. That’s a lot of water for your roof to handle, so roof leaks can be serious problems. LJ Construction in Dudley advises homeowners and building managers to give their Central Massachusetts roof a periodic inspection to ensure that there are no leaks or problem areas.

It is vastly easier to repair minor roof leaks while they are small than to deal with the water damage they create over time. Soaked insulation, discolored sheetrock, and even structural damage from rot are all possibilities if roof leaks are not caught in time.

Since most roof leaks are fairly localized and easy to repair, LJ Construction suggests inspecting the following areas for signs of roof leaks, preferably when you have had some heavy rain:

  • If your attic space is accessible, take a good light source and look for areas of wetness, including discolored insulation and dark spots on the underside of the roof sheathing material. Pay particular attention to areas with roof penetrations, including around chimneys, roof vents and plumbing stacks. Also examine the undersides of roof valleys, as improperly flashed areas can lead to water working its way under roof flashing.
  • If you have a flat commercial roof, look for areas with water ponding. Puddles indicate low spots or places with inadequate roof pitch for proper drainage. Contact our professionals for roof repair in such locations to prevent future leaks.

Don’t let a drip or discolored ceiling in your Central Massachusetts living room be your first clue to a roof leak. If you suspect a roof leak on your home or commercial building, contact LJ Construction for a thorough evaluation and prompt roof repair.
